Building a Failure Archive
Posted by: admin in Failure of arts journalism in America, Ah Minneapolis..., Death of arts publishing, Art is the first thing that goes out the window, American loss of attention span, Decline of art criticism, Corporations and the failure of art, Decline of human culture, The death of a literate society, Decline of reading, My published arts writingWith the scattered attention span and the fickle and dimming memory of the Internet and its attendant (Alzheimer’s-striken) institutions, I was only mildly surprised to discover in recent weeks that some of the publications for which I’d written arts profiles, reviews, features, and other articles in the past ten years were rapidly expunging their online journalistic databases of recent writing by me.
Therefore, in order to preserve at least a small part of local (Minnesota) art history for purposes of research and novelty, I am building on this blog-page my own live-link personal online database of some of the more than 170 pieces of arts writing I’ve completed in the past decade-plus. (Note: To finish listing all the available story-links is going to take just a little bit of time, so please be patient and check back often.)

Just proof that the internet is as ephemeral and fickle as everyone feared…
Oh, and Gabe, how in hell are you? What’s the scoop? You have a line on new digs? I read your recent forum post. Sounded fairly grim. Is there any help I can offer at this point to help you get things straightened out? (I agree with the Holster Fdn, BTW… You have to keep working.) What’s going to get you back on the track you want to be on?

i’m well considering. things are kinda grim, but i think its pretty interesting how much one can pull out of themselves when its sink or swim. i could use at least a pt job really if you know anyone thats hiring or even needs odd jobs done. the economy keeps throwing wrenches in my plan, which was to suffer this route optimistically as possible and get art to other places besides just ebay. but, i keep ending up just having to sell everything asap, opposed to getting it on a gallery wall to sit until the person comes through willing to pay what its worth. hopefully, things will keep working out to some degree…
