<description>Man, I gotta say, reading this makes my blood run cold. It's not horror at the audacity of a lie, but the greater fear that what you're saying is true, and that I am sat right in the middle, as a purveyor of high mediocrity. I read your column with bile rising like mercury in August, and frequently clicked over to my own little slice of the democratization of the arts, to see how in keeping with this low water mark I may be. I am what my a "friend" of mine once described as a "decent little artist in her own right", he, of course, was a full blown expression of the highest reaches of artistic achievement and it was important to him that I knew my place. I have been called a dabbler, an illustrator, and a hobbyist. I have been and am a "sleeves rolled up" contributor to society. I've never been without a job, and never will be. I think in that sense I'm very pragmatic. That said, not being completely ignorant to, or even in great disagreement with the main points of your thesis, I plan to keep my pilot light burning just for shits and giggles. I am enjoying this electronic documentation. I have no delusions of grandeur, but I like the way my feet feel on this path, and I really don't think that I will be sufficiently distracting to the Art World as it goes about deciding whats good and what's not. Thanks for the food for thought.
Yours respectfully
